1 - Go to www.crecorder.com

2 - Click on register (complete all details)

3 - The serial number of the unit is on the page 1 of the usermanual

4 - Return to home page and log in with username and password you created

  • A genuine SanDisk SD memory card always contains a serial number on the lower back of the card. The location of the serial number will vary depending on memory card type and manufacturer. If you have a SanDisk card, take a look at this article, which details the possible location of serial numbers on its storage products.
  • Your card CID should be very similar. The manufacturer ID should be 1b, followed by an application/OEM ID of 534d. The product name is (5 x ASCII ‘0'). The product revision is 10 (1.0). The next 8 hex characters (98625deb) are the SD card serial number, yours will be different!

5 - Go to download centre

6 - Click on c-reader v download center in blue writing

I want to be able to retrieve an SD Card's Serial Number, Manufacturer, and any other information it may provide. Java or just a command to run would be great. Compact Framework does it, but that doesn't help me.

7 - Click on creader v upgrade package v3.2

8 - Click on save and save to desk top allow program to download

9 - On desktop will now have a icon of computer with creader-v

10 - Click on icon on desktop, click run, i agree license (you do not need to put serial number in), click next, fill in name and company, click next, then next again and next again then finish.

11- Click start, click programs, highlight creader-v

12- Click on red box with cr inside it and the word launch beside it

13 - The update tool will now appear on desk top

14 - Connect c-reader to computer with usb lead

15 - It may say found new hardware follow the instruction

16 - Click on start and it will start updating

17 - If having problems we have a default username and password to log onto the website which will allow you to download

18 - Username ********

19 - Uassword ********

20 - Then repeat from step 5

For my current project, I tried to read the SD Card serial number because the number is factory stamped and unchangeable, so it easily could be used to protect embedded firmware from being copied (1). The serial number is stored in the Card Identification Register (CID) which is read by ‘Command 10' as stated in the SD Simplified Specifications. Unfortunately, it is not possible to read the CID of the card with a USB adapter — you need a ‘direct' SD interface. My iMX233 based development board has 2 of them, so it was an easy task to improve our firmware to read the CID and extract the serial number, but how do I check if I get the correct information?

Reading SD-Card SID

Luckily the Linux kernel provides the CID via the SD and MMC Block Device Attributes so you may use a Linux device containing a direct SD interface like your Android phone or an embedded Linux board. Unfortunately, you cannot know the real path of the SD card in the /sys file system so I can only give some examples and you have to try out the actual path yourself.

For example, on my Samsung Galaxy Note running Gingerbread, there is a /sys/block/mmcblk0 soft link pointing to:

<h4>Update:</h4><p>I got a few emails pointing out that using the CID as copy protection is not a good idea because there are some cards on the market which are not compliant with the standard. These cards don't prohibit CMD26 in SPI mode and therefore allow writing the CID.
